MiNews 26 recently featured the Cadillac Area Women’s Giving Circle. Below is an excerpt from the article:

As a tumultuous economy continues to create difficulty for many families, one group of Cadillac women is trying to help some of the hardest hit populations–women and children.

“We are a group of women committed to improving our community by pooling our financial and intellectual resources” says one of the group’s organizers, Laurie Melstrom. “This is grassroots, user-friendly philanthropy!” The group, known as the Women’s Giving Circle of Cadillac, will get together four times throughout the year to share a meal and discuss community needs and how best to help. “We like the idea of gathering around meaningful issues, while enjoying a potluck dinner,” said Melstrom.

Each of the Giving Circle’s members have committed to giving $500.00 annually. “Together our donations have the ability to make a significant impact on our community.” Says organizer Barb Darrigan, who adds, “There are many health and human services fields that are experiencing severe financial cut backs and possibly through diligent use of our funds we can make a difference in the life of a woman and/or her family.”
